Two for Tuesday - Zig Zag Borders

When I saw the tutorial video Jennifer McGuire created for Studio Calico I just pinned it so I could go back and watch it in detail:

I actually watched it twice - once without sound and once with...to make sure I had the idea in my head.

Then I set about creating a large "Cheveron" border that I split in half for two layouts.

These are the result of my little experiment:

Cardstock: Recollections
Printed Paper: Collage Press Knave of Hearts Queen of Hearts, Collage Press Knave of Hearts Witty, My Minds Eye lost & Found Union Square Home Sweet Home, My Minds Eye Frost Signature Christmas Ice Crystals, October Afternoon Fly A Kite Dandilions
Die Cuts: Collage Press Knave of Hearts
Stickers: EK Success Stocko
Tape: Tim Holtz Tissue Tape Nostalgic
Letters: Jillibean Soup Corrugated Kraft Alphas
Adhesive: GlueArts Glue Glider Pro
Font: My Underwood

This is definitely one technique I'll try again...but I think I'll shrink the size of my paper lines and will also limit myself to about three colors. I think I'll get more success out of this particular technique that way.

Peace, ya'll!

Monday Muse - The One with the Iceberg...and the Penguins

How come winter always looks so much better in pictures?

Jason Row Photography has captured this amazing image of glacier ice and penguins.

Its so gorgeous, I ALMOST want to go there. But as I've said to many a soul who would listen, I didn't get the "snow" gene. My mom and dad live in northern Minnesota and my sister lives in the mountains of Colorado. You can be sure it snows PLENTY in both locations...and it gets bone-chilling cold.

Me, I prefer the South West or South East...give me a dry heat or a humid heat...so long as its a heat. I guess I'm a big ole wuss that way.

So...anyway...the muse...isn't the color AMAZING?!?!?!? I'm totally doing something with this colors scheme...

Two for Tuesday - Little Boy and I Win

On this two for Tuesday, I've got two baby layouts for you.

The first was done using mostly the Echo Park Little Boy line. I really love the images from this line...the boats, airplanes, trains and automobiles are PERFECT for my very boyish little boy.

Little Boy:

Cardstock: Paperbilities Kraft and White
Printed paper: Echo Park Little Boy Sailboats, Echo Park Little Boy Rad Plaid, Echo Park Little Boy In the Clouds, Echo Park Little Boy Little Boy Borders
Punches: Jenni Bowlin for Fiskars Jester. Stampin’ Up Scallop Circle
Stickers: Echo Park Little Boy
Mists: Smooch Spritz Electric Blue
Adhesive: GlueArts Glue Glider Pro, Scotch Mounting Tape, Tombow Tape Runner
Font: My Underwood

The second is my experiment in creating a mostly cardstock layout. It's one of those layouts where I really wanted the pictures and not the supplies to be center stage:

I WIN!:

Cardstock: Paperbilities Kraft, White
Printed Paper: Pink Paislee Hometown Summer Green Acres, Crate Paper Random Collection Victorian
Border: Bazzill Basics Just the Edge Cardstock Red Devil
Ink: Studio Calico Mister Hueys Warm Calico
Pearls: Want to Scrap
Adhesive: Tombow Tape Runner
Font: My Underwood

Have a BEAUTIFUL day, everyone!

Peace!

Monday Muse - The One with the Rhino

Sometimes life feels like this:

This one was taken by Photograph by Peter Delaney, Your Shot. You can see the original on National Geographic.

There are times when life is running at you, big and full speed...and all you have time to do is snap the photo and run like mad to get out of the way so you won't be run over by your run-away life.

On a side note...that guy is kinda cute! HA!

Peace, ya'll!

Two for Tuesday - Happy Valentine's Day!

This year, I was completely enthralled by all the really great handmade Valentine options I found on the crafty and scrap blogs as well as on Pinterest.  Pinterest is really the BEST social networking site I've ever seen. I could spend hours on that site!!

But I digress...

I did some handmade valentines last year for Jayden, but at the last second, he decided that he wanted to buy the boxed kind from Target. This is some sort of thing that happens with kids, right?  If you BUY their holiday paraphernalia, they wish it had been homemade. If you make it, they wonder why in the world it couldn't be the store bought stuff...

Sigh...

This year, he was on board when he saw the tutorial for Wild Animal Valentines done by Design Mom. You can see her version (and get a free download) HERE.

They turned out SO cute:

Noah, who has not got any care in the world when it comes to Valentines, got a version of the Superhero Valentine posted by Little Bit Funky. You can see the originals (and, again, a link to a free download) HERE.

This was our version:

Next year, I'm totally doing something with their pictures...and I'm not asking them what they think! :-)

Peace, ya'll

Oh...and HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Monday Muse - The One with the Snowflake

I'm cold...

Its winter in the Northern Hemisphere, so this makes sense...

Its one of the driest and warmest winters on record where I life, so being cold is actually sort of relative. I've still got that California blood.

At any rate, i'm cold...and so this muse seems rather fitting.

And stunning.

And the kind of muse that makes you say "IS THAT A REAL PICTURE!?!?!?"

It comes to us from Michael Reichel and you can see the original post on MSNBC's Photo Blog:

Amazing, right!?!?!

It makes me wish I was a real photographer!!!

Peace, ya'll!
