Fun with Monday Muse

Lets have a little fun with the Monday Muse!

I thought immediately of two scrapping lines that lend themselves to this muse: Dear Lizzy and Girls Paperie: Here is what I came up with as worthy scrapbooking supplies:

Every one of these papers from Dear Lizzie would work beautifully:

Throw in some Little Yellow Bicycle:

Finish off with a bit of Girls Paperie:

Oh, and some Tickers (of course!)

My friend Joan commented yesterday that she doesn’t really scrapbook. So here are some other crafty items that fit with this muse…and not all of them so pastel-ish!

Beautiful fused glass pendant from Helen’s Adornments

Peace and Love Bracelet from Kimari Jewelry

Blue and pink beanie from Allie Kay Designs

Quilt from Never Enough Hours (you should take a look at some other stuff as well..SUPER CUTE stuff!

I’m not exactly sure what the deal is with pink, but I found this Cuisinart Coffeemaker

Toaster:

And KitchenAid mixer:

I also found this amazing (and a little bit crazy) project by artist JeongMee Yoon called The Pink and Blue Project . There are some sample images below. But you should read her project statement. Pretty interesting stuff! Here are some sample images:

WHEW…this seemed to be one of the most versatile muse’s I’ve done in awhile…and who said pink and blue were just for babies!!

Have an AMAZING DAY everyone!

Peace!

Monday Muse - Michaels Ad (seriously)

I never know if my Michaels ad is the same as the one on the west coast or in the central part of the US...

But I was completely in LOVE with how this week's Michael's ad struck me...

Hello, Gorgeous!!!

Seriously...they must have taken a clue from the Post Office and decided to hire a scrapbooker to design their front page this time...

LOVE the colors. The layout is CLASSIC scrapbooking fodder. The headline could translate into pretty much anything you wanted it to....and the CURVED LINE?!?! yum.

So...what would you do with this muse?

Peace, ya'll! Have a FABULOUS day!

Five Question Friday

Hey, everyone!

Happy FRIDAY!

I think more than any other time of year, September represents to me new beginnings. There is a new school year, fresh supplies, fresh clothing, new ideas. The weather cools off from the sticky, hot and stifling summer to a more breathable, less humid, crisp and electric atmosphere.

I’ve been busy planning out my September. When I can scrapbook, what I will blog, things I want to craft, supplies I want to get, a new class and a new group I’m starting, consolidating some inspirations into a new notebook with new organization, and all sorts of other “new year” things.

I’m also looking ahead and planning things like a blog format update, October birthday celebrations for my big boy and my wonderful husband, how I will manage Christmas shopping/gifting, my annual Christmas cookie exchange, the one-year birthday of a very cute bald-headed boy in December and my new (again) desire to be fit.

I’m planning on some future blogs to show you all this planning and share my inspirations. More on that later.

Five Question Friday time:

1. How many pets do you have? Just one…a very old toy Pomeranian named Hunny – she can’t see, or hear…but she can still eat and make a mess.

2. If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be? Ummmm….my husband. He’s at home with my boys during the day, which is a place I LONG to be.

3. What is your favorite money saving tip? Don’t spend it? Is that too simple? Here is my tip…understand quality vs. expensive. I invest in some things due to the quality – like my shoes. I wear them across several seasons, get maintenance done on them regularly by the cobbler and thus, invest in them (but I do usually buy on sale!) I also use coupons, money back deals, and purchase ahead deals to save my cash. Oh, and one more. Don’t buy on debt. If you can’t afford to pay cash for something, don’t buy it. I think medical emergencies, houses and cars might fall outside of this…but generally we don’t buy on credit!

4. What do you want your kids to be when they grow up? Productive, intelligent, balanced, positive human beings with a solid relationship with Christ. The rest is up to them.

5. What is your favorite quote? its actually a scripture:

Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Have a FABULOUS FRIDAY, everyone!

Peace!

1000 Miles And a GIVEAWAY!!!

Its time for my final layout to be posted for the August Discovery kit from Scrapbooking From the Inside Out.

This layout is more about how much I've discovered about myself on my life journey.

As the mother of two small children, I'm always thinking about this...always wondering, "What will they learn about themselves, life, the world, God as they go?"

Since my mom gave me an amazing box of photos for Christmas last year, I dug into those for a good shot of me when I was little.

This is the result:

Aren't those little butterflies cool?

And this was my first round of texturizing and inking (and texturizing and inking, and texturizing and inking) a background. I love how it turned out! I also used some book pages in the background - its kinds of hard to see...I'm loving the dictionary/book pages on my layouts right now. Since I love text so much and words, its a fun way for me to incorporate something I just think is GORGEOUS into my pages.

If you think back, all the way to your childhood, what have you discovered? Every time I ask myself that question, I think about creek frogs and how white sandals don't hold up well to getting wet...but that is a story for a different day!

****WANT TO WIN THIS KIT?????******

The AMAZING Donna Downey is GIVING AWAY one of these amazing kits today...Head on over HERE and leave a comment! You could win!!!

Have a fabulous day, everyone!

Peace!

Challenges

One of the things I adore about Scrapbooking From the Inside Out is the challenges. They really get me thinking and also give me huge design challenges.

This month, our theme was DISCOVERY.

Check out these challenges...they make you think, no?

Challenge #1, Aha Moment/Suprise Element

Please create a LO about an AHA moment in your life - a moment when you disovered something that had previously been unknown to you and it hit you like a flash.

For the design twist, please include a surprise element - something that pops out, pulls out, appears from nowhere.

Challenge #2, Avoidance/Separate

Don’t Tell Me: What do you shy away from knowing to protect yourself? Are there difficult truths which you avoid in order to keep feeling good, or to avoid feeling bad? Are these truths about you and who you really are, or about the roles that others play in your life? Are there stories in your family that are kept secret which you choose not to pursue? What do you hide about yourself from others, and why?

All men should strive to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why. James Thurber

Please create a LO about something you avoid/have avoided discovering...are there untold truths that you'd just as soon not know?

For the design twist, please separate your photos from the truth - be it your title, or another representation of the thing you avoid.

Challenge #3, Photos 1/Age

Photos Matter: What do you discover about yourself by looking at photos of yourself at different life stages? Does your expression, your clothing, the background, tell a story about you that has changed over time? Could you feel yourself changing and growing, or is it only evident looking backwards?

Please use 2 or more photos to elucidate something you've discovered about yourself by looking at photos taken over time...

For the design twist, please 'age' your photos in some way - with age #s, distressing or sepia/black and white...

Challenge #4, Baggage/What You Carry

Baggage: We all carry some? What baggage do you carry with you on this life journey? Is it trouble from your childhood, memory of a great loss, or a misguided belief about yourself? Are you ashamed of your baggage, do you accept it, or do you even wear it as a badge of honor? Do others see the baggage you carry clearly, or do you try to hide it? How do you negotiate the relative weight of your baggage when it comes to that of your spouse, significant other or a family member or friend?

Please create a LO about the baggage you carry from your past...is it heavy? What does it look and feel like? An old steamer trunk? A hobo pack?

For the design twist, show us the physical shape of your baggage in some 3D way...

Its the design twists that always get me.

You do not have to be a kit club member to participate in the challenges! Anyone can play along! Some prizes are awarded only to Kit Club Members, but you can win any individual challenge regardless of whether or not you use the kit.

So, tell me...what have you discovered???

Monday Muse - Back to School

Its that time again…

Time for kids to either go back to school, or be reveling in their final final days of summer...

Mine went back last week.

And the rest of the county will go back this week - either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Its a special time.

My Bible Study group decided to bless a number of children with some basic school supplies. Since I like to get Jayden involved in my projects, we decided to work together on this...Well..I worked...he was mostly "together."

Ever the fan of kits, we put the supplies into kits, the same stuff for 10 kids.

This was our kitchen table yesterday:

All the supplies are safely packaged away in 2 gallon zip-locks awaiting distribution to our favorite charities.

I also worked on a little project for Jay’s teachers.

Before Valentine’s day, I did a version of this project that I found on Cuttlebug Challenge:

I’ll have to find my pictures…mine were turquoise and pink.

I saw that both eighteen 25 and Nora Griffen did back to school versions for teachers.

I, of course, had to put my little spin on it:

SUPER fun way to get myself all geared up for “school.”

Ok..so what is the muse?

Here you go: What does back to school mean to you?

More buses and thus more traffic?

Kids with new clothes?

Cool new pens and papers?

Or do you just avoid all school related sections of your favorite stores?

And how would you put that into art?

I’m curious to see what you will do with this muse as “school” is a personal thing for all of us.

Have a fabulous Monday, everyone!

Peace!

Its a blessed, blessed Friday! Oh, thank goodness!

I'm still trying to unpack from my convention last week...its funny how I used to be able to get all this stuff done in one day. Add two kiddos, and the ability to unpack a simple scrap bag becomes all about stealing away so that they won't notice you're missing! HAHA!!

Facebook got a really amazing post from me this morning. It said basically that I'm feeling rather cave-woman-ish today...like "Ugh! Coffee Good!" and not much else in the way of coherant thought. I'm not proud to say that its the afternoon and I'm still in a cloud.

Good thing I have to dig through hundreds of lines of data today...nothing like getting lost in a maze of data while buried in a cloud to close out the week.

But in this too, I thank Jesus! After all, there IS coffee...and it IS Friday...and it IS time for Five Question Friday! (always a favorite little diversion of mine!)

1. Do you have any nicknames and if so how did it come about? Oh, my goodness...do I have nicknames! Let me see…Blondie (again) because of my blond hair, Red because of my Red hair (get the feeling I color my hair?), Fee (There was another Felicia in my town, if you can believe that, and they all called her Fe...so I bacame FEE), Lecia (my mom and dad have called me this since I was a little girl), Babe (Scott has always called me this), Mama (I think this is obvious), Flea (I had a friend who was eating crackers and she tried to say "fee" and it came out "flea" and it stuck), and once, not all that long ago, my dear little friend Ryan called me “Uncle Felecia.” How is THAT for a nickname? I have no idea why he called me that, but he did and I LOVE it!

2. What is your birth order amongst your siblings? I’m the elder of two…though sometimes, people think Kellie is the elder. Something about maturity? Hee hee!!!

3. In a movie of your life, who would play your significant other? I think my Scott bears an uncanny resemblance to the current Robert Downey Jr. (not that old drug-addicted one)

What do you think?

4. What is currently your favorite song?

Glitter in the Air by Pink:

5. Are you saving your money for anything right now? Big or small purchase?

I’ve taken an interest in going to Brave Girl Camp. Its gonna take some serious saving, tho!

Have a BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND everyone!

Peace!

Not Just Me, But Mom

I never really wanted to be a mom…it wasn’t part of my game plan.

There is a long and very involved story as to WHY I didn’t want to be a mom, but lets just leave it at this: it wasn’t on my radar.

When I found out I was pregnant with Jayden, I wanted the whole world to stop and notice…I wanted it to be special.

That first pregnancy taught me so much – about my body, about my habits, about who I was.

Motherhood in and of itself has been an unbelievable discovery…and the love of motherhood has been an even greater discovery.

My reluctance, and subsequent discoveries about life beyond myself is another good story for the August Discovery kit from Scrapbooking From the Inside Out:

This is layout is totally about how I am completely enamored with my kids and how it started with that very first time I held a living breathing human being from within my own body in my arms…there is not a word in the world that could adequately describe how big it is…how absolutely breathtaking.

What breathtaking thing have you discovered?

Or what simple little thing have you discovered.

Don’t think there are any revelations in your life you could journal or make art about?

Head on over to Scrapbooking From the Inside Out’s Inspiration Page. Its FULL of prompts, ideas, songs and wonderful art to get your thoughts moving.

And have an AMAZING day!!!

Peace, ya’ll!

Muse-less Monday and a winner

Well...

I knew this day would arrive...its a Monday and I have no muse for you...

Or...

Rather I have quite a few and no brain for decision making today...

Today, I'm just back from Creating Keepsakes Convention. They have it in my town every year...and this year, I took more classes, went to one of the crops and we got a room at the host hotel across the street so we could fall in bed exhausted after days of scrapping and class taking.

It was a wonderful couple of days.

I've returned with my head full of ideas about my bloggy, Tattered Angels mists, cooking, spirituality, uptown Charlotte restaurants that are imminently unfindable, fabric flowers, good coffee, color combinations, shopping...whew...it was a very full weekend!

I have so much on my mind, I can't seem to focus on just one thing to give you as a muse!

I do have a question or two...would you like to see some of my spiritual musings again? Perhaps my introspective writing on the things I read that inspire me?

Or some techniques? Crafting or scrapping? or maybe just a little bit of my explorations into my very busy life crammed here and there with creative stuff?

I do so miss posting about my kiddos, too...I"m thinking of adding that...

So...you see, I came back SO inspired! SO jazzed about the things in my head that are creative...and SO tired...lol...being jazzed has a way of doing that to you? WHERE is my COFFEE!?!?!?!?

Anyway..I DO want to give you the winner, winner, winner of my little bloggy give-away from Friday:

The Random Number Generator says this:

Which means THIS is our winner:

And seriously, if you read her weekend plans, I wouldn't have minded having her weekend! "Hair" AND a Julia Roberts movie!?!?!? How much chick heaven could one woman possibly stand!?!?!?!?

So, Rachel, I don't believe I have your addy...

Let me know where to send the goods!

Have a BEAUTIFUL MONDAY everyone!

Peace, ya'll!

Friday Fun from the Convention

Today I'm at CKC Charlotte with my girls...

We are having a blast!  And even tho its in our town, we went ahead and rented the hotel room so we could just walk across the street from the convention center and crash without having to drive 30 minutes to get to a place to lay our heads!

I"ll be in class all day, so no Five Question Friday today...

BUT I'm going to give away a little stash of goodies to one lucky ducky!

This is what is in the box:  If you like glitter, flocking and flowers, this is YOUR box!

If you want to win, just leave me a comment about YOUR weekend plans...Whatcha up to???

I'll pick a winner on Monday morning!

Peace, ya'll!!

I Found Love

Perhaps the most important of my discoveries is my faith.

Its a long and amazing journey - one that has taken me many many places that I never dreamed I would go.

No matter how far I get from that first Sunday morning I accepted Christ, it never fades in my memory...I can remember the weather, my clothes, and what the sermon was about. Its like it was yesterday...

This is the PERFECT story for the August Discovery kit from Scrapbooking From the Inside Out:

So enjoyed playing with the circle punch and the thought that my spiritual journey has been filled with moments of revealing and moments where I couldn't see anything.

Over time, the picture has become more clear, but there is still a lot of discovery left....

What have you found in your life time?

Peace, ya'll!!!

Fun with Monday Muse

Rather than do a bunch of shopping for the Monday Muse, I thought maybe I'd dig through some of my layouts and see just how many of them fall in this arena.

Here is the muse:

Here are just a few examples of what I do all the time with this color combo:

See? I told you this was a sweet spot. I actually have two more that I just finished but don't have photos of that additionally fall in this category.

Each of these uses a variation of the green/brown/white color scheme...and you couldn't get more different layouts.

cool!

So...what are you doing with this muse?

Monday Muse - Green and Brown and White

*GreenFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

Isn't this beautiful?

This is actually my sweet spot - my favorite colors to create with...not that you would be able to tell that from my work OR from my house...

But I have the easiest time with this color combo, making it work for me.

How about you?

What would you do with this muse?

Five Question Friday

WHEW its been a busy week...I'll have some photos for you tomorrow to show you what I've been up to...which is surprisingly a lot of preparations and not all that much crafting...

As is my usual Friday Fare, its time for Five Question Friday.

Lets just get right into this, shall we?

1. Are you a neat sleeper or a messy sleeper? What does this mean? I don't move a lot when I sleep, so my covers don't get very rumpled...my side of the bed is the easy side to make in the morning for SURE!

2. Fill in the blank. I wish I was more ________________. Peaceful. I'm a tick-tock, check-it-off-the-list, any-minute-sitting-still-is-a-wasted-minute person by NATURE. I'm learning to be still and quite my mind. Its a work in process.

3. What is something that you wish you had been warned about? I cannot honestly htink of anything that I'm currently "suffering" with that SOMEBODY didn't warn me about...oh...wait...the things that happen to your body when you're pregnant. I wish somebody had warned me about that. All anyone ever says is "It changes your body" but seriously, pregnancy should come with a warning from the surgeon general.

4. What was the best thing you ever found at a garage sale/flea market? A set of dishes that were valued at over $3000. I paid $15 for them.

5. If you could have any meal brought to you right now, what would it be? A chicken, potato and cheese burrito from Miguel's Jr. with two salsa's and a big diet coke. Sadly, I can't eat that...there is no Miguel's Jr. here and that burrito would kill me!

Unfolding

One of the things about life is that it meanders, it unfolds itself gradually...and with each unfolding, something new and amazing is revealed.

For me, this is like the unfolding of a handmade quilt...each time you see a new square, you see the care and planning, patience and effort that went into its making.

This month at Scrapbooking From the Inside Out is all about DISCOVERY...for me, this is rarely a surprise event, but more of a gradual thing, that I see 20/20 after the fact.

Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of epiphanies...what life doesn't have those? It just seems, tho, that most of my realizations happen following longer journeys:

What have you discovered in the unfolding of your life?  What has gradually been revealed?

Peace, ya'll!

Monday Muse and a WINNER!!

GOOD MORNING (er...afternoon?)

How is everyone this fine Monday Morning!

I had THE most amazing weekend...

First of all, Thursday was an appointed day of rest for me...an assignment...and we all know how I like to over-achieve when it comes to assignments!

I had the BEST hot stone massage and a nap and some scrapbook room time...and then my friend Teri came to visit.

We had the BEST time...lots of food and laughter and my kiddos loved her. (of COURSE they did! What's not to love?!)

Sadly, the only pictures taken were by Jayden and THOSE are all missing faces...so...there is no evidence she was actually here! Well...as long as you don't count the 5 pounds I gained eating great food with her!

TODAY's Monday muse is this glorious little picture...its actually a PARTIAL picture from a Pier One ad. Isn't it neat?

I think I'm kinda into the partial quality of it...its oddly reminiscent of the photos that Jayden took of me and Teri...not all there.

Anyway...I LOVE the colors. I've been shopping for school clothes and school supplies for Jayden's return to school this month. He's very excited...he wants me to buy the supplies for next year too, just in case. I think he's just into office supplies as much as his momma.

This image makes me think of fall...the muted colors, the darker lighting. It feels like the change of seasons to me.

What do you think? What does this evoke for you? How would you use this in your art?

I also have a WINNER to announce - of all 4 of you who actually read my blog! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

My winner for the embellishment package is:

Which means that Pinky (or rather Pinky's friend Denise) wins! WOOHOO!!!

Pinky, if you will get me Denise's snail mail info, I will get the package in the mail!

Have an AMAZING DAY, everyone!

Peace!

What have you DISCOVERED?

Its that time! Time to reveal the new kit from Scrapbooking From the Inside Out.

Say Hello to August's Kit. Theme this month is Discovery!

Its got all kinds of gorgeous papers and details:

This kit was SO MUCH FUN to play with...

This is my first layout from the kit:

This is about how I accidently discovered digital photography, photoshop, scrapbooking, retreats, conventions, and a wonderful group of amazing on-line and in-person friends through the splurge purchase of just one camera.

This kit had so many embellishments in it...I seriously LOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEDDD playing with the various things:

So, what have YOU discovered?

Head on over and play with us!!!

Peace, ya'll!

PS - Don't forget to HERE and leave me a comment so you can be entered in the drawing!
